The harbour and railway station are right next to each other. You can reach the city by train as well as by boat. The lake promenade invites you to stroll.

Places of interest are the old church, a small museum about the local history near the harbour.
The sea route in the direction of Kreuzlingen is an active used skater course with many connection points to the public transport.

The bicycle tour from Romanshorn to Rorschach and from there by ferry back to Friedrichshafen or Lindau is also recommendable.

Romanshorn is not as crowded in summer as the German shore of Lake Constance and is therefore particularly suitable for visitors looking for a little peace and quiet.

At the starting point at the Rohrspitz there are different parking spaces, some of which are subject to a charge.

You can walk on the dam in the direction of Gaißau to the Rheinspitz. There the path leads through the floodplain forest, also called Rheinholz. At the end of the Rheinspitz there are bathing and barbecue facilities. The path leads along the shores of Lake Constance back to the starting point.

In summer, when the weather is fine, you can go swimming on the freely accessible beaches at the Rohrspitz and at the end of the Rheinholz, at the Rheinspitz.

Rhine delta restaurant Glashaus – a culinary highlight directly on the lake

A culinary highlight is the Seerestaurant Glaushaus, situated in the middle of nature and directly on Lake Constance. In the summer opening hours from May to August the restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight and on Sunday from 9 a.m. for you. After a bathing day or a bicycle tour you can enjoy the beautiful sunset here.

St Gallen is located in eastern Switzerland and is only about 15 minutes from the Swiss side of Lake Constance. St Gallen can be easily reached from Austria as well as from the German border from Constance. In addition, a car ferry crosses the Bodensee several times a day from Friedrichshafen to Romanshorn. From there it takes about 20 minutes to get to the city.

Where is St Gallen is very often linked to the question about the famous abbey

In 1755 Prince Abbot Cölestin Gugger von Staudach ordered the construction of today’s baroque cathedral. The Abbey District of St.Gallen was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. The present library room of the Stiftsbibliothek (library) was built in 1758/67. It is considered the most beautiful profane rococo hall in Switzerland and comprises more than 150,000 volumes. The library’s unique collection of early medieval manuscripts, in particular, is of worldwide importance and immeasurable value.

Nice bars and many students

St Gallen is also a beautiful city for strolling and in winter there is a very beautiful Christmas market here. The city is home to one of the world’s most renowned universities. The HSG has made a name for itself especially in the field of economics. Due to the large number of students, St Gallen has a large number of pubs and bars, and nightlife is quite respectable.

St. Gallen is worth a visit and has more to offer than one might expect.

From the Allmein-Alpe you return to Viktorsberg in a comfortable way out of the valley. In some of the residential houses, envy can directly befall you, as the great location on the sunny balcony is certainly enviable. At the monastery, one could turn back again, or one could drive, relaxed and with fully charged batteries back downhill.

The skull of St. Victor († A.D.) has been in the Viktorsberg Monastery since the 8th century, from where there is a wonderful view of the Vorderland.

Viktorsberg Vorarlberg can be combined with a visit to Liechtenstein or Dornbirn.

The hill of the Castle is located about 120m above Vaduz and can only be reached on foot or by private car; there is no public transport. Parking is available about 500m above the castle. A walk from the city centre to Vaduz Castle takes about 20 minutes.

As Vaduz Castle is privately owned by the princely family, the premises of the stately castle cannot be visited.

The visit to Vaduz should be combined with a visit to the Victorsberg or Säntis. A trip to the Montafon may even be worthwhile.

After the Middle Ages, Salem experienced a second period of prosperity in the Baroque period. At this time the magnificent interiors of the baroque building such as the Kaisersaal, Library and Abtsalon were created.

In January 1802 Salem passed into the possession of the Earl of Baden, was a palace until 2009 and is now administered by the state of Baden-Württemberg. Since the end of the 13th century vineyards have been one of the main activities of the Salem monks.

The trip to Salem Castle can be very well combined with a visit to the Affenberg Salem. The Affenberg Salem is not far from the castle and offers families with children in particular a welcome variety.

At 2,500 metres above sea level, an overwhelming panorama awaits you over the whole of eastern Switzerland, the Lake Constance region, southern Germany, Vorarlberg and the Alps – or in autumn and winter over the dense sea of fog in the Mittelland.

The mountain, which is visible from far away, is also known for its extreme weather conditions, which otherwise only occur in the high mountains.

Use the cablecar to climb the Santis Switzerland

The first cable car takes you up to the highest vantage point in eastern Switzerland in ten minutes. The three-and-a-half hour mountain hike to the summit is much more strenuous – but no less exciting.

As a reward, you can sunbathe wonderfully on the terrace in the two panorama restaurants, one with service and the other with self-service, or enjoy the powerful cuisine.

The prices for the cable car, at CHF 54 per person, are unfortunately not quite cheap. The trip to the Santis Switzerland is nevertheless an unforgettable one.

Zeppelin museum and dornier museum – a great place for aviation fans

The Dornier museum is located directly at Friedrichshafen Airport and takes you on a journey through 100 years of aerospace history! Huge flying boats, nostalgic passenger planes and exciting exhibits from space travel make a visit to the Dornier museum an experience for the whole family. The history of the aviation pioneer Dornier can be traced very well. With more than 400 exhibits, many aviation fans will get their money’s worth in the museum.

A visit to the Zeppelin museum is also a must in Friedrichshafen. One of the largest and most important collections on the subject of zeppelins. Numerous original objects can be seen – uniforms, technical rarities, cutlery, furniture and much more. Video films about the Zeppelin can be viewed. Right down to details about the crash of the Hindenburg. The Zeppelin museum, located directly at the harbour, has become a magnet for the public. From the landing stage of the catamaran it is only a few steps on foot to stand in front of the building. Here you can learn everything about the beginning of airship and even look into the cabins of a zeppelin.

The regional airport makes the Zeppelin museum easily accessible

As a pilot, I am also a fan of the regional airport. There are only a few regional airports that offer such a high standard of safety on the one hand, but at the same time have remained easily accessible and kept the atmosphere of a regional airport.

Friedrichshafen is very easy to reach by car, bicycle, train or bus and even by plane.
