The harbour and railway station are right next to each other. You can reach the city by train as well as by boat. The lake promenade invites you to stroll.

Places of interest are the old church, a small museum about the local history near the harbour.
The sea route in the direction of Kreuzlingen is an active used skater course with many connection points to the public transport.

The bicycle tour from Romanshorn to Rorschach and from there by ferry back to Friedrichshafen or Lindau is also recommendable.

Romanshorn is not as crowded in summer as the German shore of Lake Constance and is therefore particularly suitable for visitors looking for a little peace and quiet.

You will probably ask yourself if you are looking for good Universities in Switzerland or the famous abbey. Otherwise the city isn’t so well known but absolutely worth seeing.

St Gallen is located in eastern Switzerland and is only about 15 minutes from the Swiss side of Lake Constance. St Gallen can be easily reached from Austria as well as from the German border from Constance. In addition, a car ferry crosses the Bodensee several times a day from Friedrichshafen to Romanshorn. From there it takes about 20 minutes to get to the city.

Where is St Gallen is very often linked to the question about the famous abbey

In 1755 Prince Abbot Cölestin Gugger von Staudach ordered the construction of today’s baroque cathedral. The Abbey District of St.Gallen was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. The present library room of the Stiftsbibliothek (library) was built in 1758/67. It is considered the most beautiful profane rococo hall in Switzerland and comprises more than 150,000 volumes. The library’s unique collection of early medieval manuscripts, in particular, is of worldwide importance and immeasurable value.

Nice bars and many students

St Gallen is also a beautiful city for strolling and in winter there is a very beautiful Christmas market here. The city is home to one of the world’s most renowned universities. The HSG has made a name for itself especially in the field of economics. Due to the large number of students, St Gallen has a large number of pubs and bars, and nightlife is quite respectable.

St. Gallen is worth a visit and has more to offer than one might expect.

The hill of the Castle is located about 120m above Vaduz and can only be reached on foot or by private car; there is no public transport. Parking is available about 500m above the castle. A walk from the city centre to Vaduz Castle takes about 20 minutes.

As Vaduz Castle is privately owned by the princely family, the premises of the stately castle cannot be visited.

The visit to Vaduz should be combined with a visit to the Victorsberg or Säntis. A trip to the Montafon may even be worthwhile.

Santis Switzerland is the landmark of the Lake Constance region. In 1882, the first weather station was set up here, which has since been looked after by a weather guard.

At 2,500 metres above sea level, an overwhelming panorama awaits you over the whole of eastern Switzerland, the Lake Constance region, southern Germany, Vorarlberg and the Alps – or in autumn and winter over the dense sea of fog in the Mittelland.

The mountain, which is visible from far away, is also known for its extreme weather conditions, which otherwise only occur in the high mountains.

Use the cablecar to climb the Santis Switzerland

The first cable car takes you up to the highest vantage point in eastern Switzerland in ten minutes. The three-and-a-half hour mountain hike to the summit is much more strenuous – but no less exciting.

As a reward, you can sunbathe wonderfully on the terrace in the two panorama restaurants, one with service and the other with self-service, or enjoy the powerful cuisine.

The prices for the cable car, at CHF 54 per person, are unfortunately not quite cheap. The trip to the Santis Switzerland is nevertheless an unforgettable one.

More information can be found on the page of Tanya (momstotszurich).

Especially Schaffhausen with the Rhine Falls is spectacular. The waterfalls are considered the largest in Europe. The area is beautiful, the vineyards on the banks of the Rhine tempt you to extensive hikes and is also oriented towards family-friendly tourism.

I would recommend the short hike from the castle Laufen. The castle offers an impressive view of the Rhine Falls. The way down to the Rhine leads over stairs and through a tunnel to various viewing platforms to the landing stage.

The rhine falls offer wonderful nature and a lot of variety.

The rock in the Rhine can be reached and climbed by boat. Or you can simply be taken to the other side of the Rhine to Wörth Castle, from where a walk along the banks of the Rhine and over the railway bridge takes you back to the starting point. Europe’s largest waterfall offers an impressive natural spectacle. The average flow rate is 750 cubic metres per second. At a width of 150 m, the Rhine (coming from Lake Constance) falls from a height of 23 m over the rocks.

Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein should not be missed either.

Schaffhausen is also worth a visit. The Münster Allerheiligen, the Museum zu Allerheiligen, medieval alleys and squares, town houses invite you to explore the city.

The town of Stein am Rhein is about 20 km from Schaffhausen. A stroll along the Rhine and through the medieval alleys to the town hall square with its painted facades is also worthwhile.

Every year the Rheinfall attracts many thousands of tourists. People from all over the world come to see the nature. The Rhinefall must not be missed when visiting the region.

Mountains, nature, good food, friendliness. One of the absolute highlights in the region is the hike to Ebenalp. Here you can find a true feeling for the Swiss mountains.

The starting and finishing point of the hike is the valley station of the Ebenalp aerial cableway. Right next to the station there are two large parking spaces where you can park free of charge.

A wide hiking trail leads steadily uphill from the valley station along the Schwendibach stream towards Seealpsee. The route is popular and accordingly well frequented. The hikers are equipped with good footwear and carry provisions with them. Most foreign tourists and school classes take the more comfortable route by cable car directly to Ebenalp. After an hour’s walk you can see Seealpsee – in the background the mountain panorama of the Alpstein.

Relax at Seealpsee, true Appenzell Switzerland feeling

The terraces of the mountain guesthouses Trout and Seealp invite you to take a first break. The restaurants are open until 1 November. From Seealpsee the trail continues on to Altenalp. During a short but very steep section of the trail, fitness is needed. 200 meters of altitude difference are to be overcome on short distance – only something for fit hikers. The effort is worth it – the hiker has a wonderful view over the Seealpsee. True Appenzell Switzerland feeling.

The route continues towards Füessler at 1555 metres above sea level. After 20 minutes you reach the mountain guesthouse Äscher at 1454 metres above sea level. As early as 1800, the hermits and alpine dairymen began to sell simple drinks and food on the Äscher Alp. Today, the cosy restaurant is known above all for its excellent Rösti. It’s worth making a reservation.

Spectacular views of the Appenzell Switzerland countryside

The Wildkirchli is only a short distance behind the Berghaus Äscher. In 1904 the St.Gallen scientist Emil Bächler (1868-1950) found prehistoric finds of cavemen such as worked stones, tools and bones in the three caves. Proof that Neanderthals must have lived in the Alpstein between 50000 and 30000 BC.

The Ebenalp can be reached within a few hundred metres. The view is rewarding for the 41⁄-hour walk. The expansive Ebenalp plateau offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Appenzell, Sanktgall and Thurgau hills, the wide Lake Constance region and the picturesque panorama of the Alpstein chain to the west and south.
